Held at White Colne, Nr Colchester (just off the A1124)
The highlight of the NEETEC year is it’s annual rally and for many years it has jointly organised this with the Earls Colne Scout & Guide Group.
NEETEC held it’s first small rally near Lawford in 1976. Although successful it was somewhat outside the catchment area of the club so in 1977 the rally moved to Wash Farm in Aldham Ford Street and the name “Aldham Olde Tyme Rallye” was born.
The early events relied heavily on club members providing most of the facilities, from toilets using straw bales and a hole in the ground to PA facilities and ropes and stakes from local farms. Catering was provided by Eight Ash Green Scouts and subsequently the larger Earls Colne Scout group and they continue to do so.
20 years later we had outgrown the site and moved up the road to Chalkney Meadow at White Colne but the well established Aldham Rally name was retained albeit without the anachronistic spelling. We have held a rally every year since with one exception during the 2001 Foot & Mouth outbreak. We also moved lock and stock a couple of miles up the road for one year while National Grid were restringing the pylons on our usual site.
40 plus rallies later; the event is now a much bigger affair requiring a small but dedicated team to spend several prior days settings up despite toilets, skips, PA, catering and bar facilities now being sourced commercially.
Exhibits range from full size and model steam engines, tractors, stationary engines and horticultural machinery to military & commercial vehicles, vintage & classic cars, motorcycles and static displays of interesting collectables. There are also autojumblers and other traders, a craft tent and, of course, ample refreshments.
2017 marked our landmark 40th Rally.
